The Problem in Central and South America

"Big sectors of the Latin American church, even more than in the US, seem to stagger from one shallow, sensational fad to another."
   - John Stamm

In over half of the countries in Latin American, fewer than 1 in 9 people identify themselves as evangelical believers. And with few exceptions, since the early 1990s, there has been a halt in the numerical growth in congregations. And this is happening even though there is an abundance of resources and for the most part social-political conditions are favorable. So what's the problem?

It has been said that everything rises and falls on leadership. This is especially true in ministry, as evidenced in Jesus' heavy investment in a dozen leaders, through whom He built His church. Unfortunately, few pastors ever receive that level of investment in their own lives and ministries, and as a result they lack effectiveness, or simply burn out having never learned to run the race at a sustainable pace.

Many of the pastors and ministers in Latin America have never had the opportunity to be adequately fed in the academic sense. And though they do their best with what they have, a strategic investment in their development will certainly yield tremendous results.

Our Solution

"Increasingly, in recent years, we have become convinced that aberrant tendencies must be confronted at the 'ground level' where simple Christians live. "
   - John Stamm

For half the year, The Brook will operate as a training center for Latin American pastors. Utilizing funds raised during the high season, pastors will be assisted in getting to The Brook, provided free room and board, as well as an intensive week of free training in areas of theology, leadership and church administration.

In addition, our staff will continue to follow up on alumni to see that they are able to successfully implement in their ministries the things that they learned at The Brook.

The Brook will avoid denominational affiliation so that it may have the broadest impact, and even assist different denominations in the areas we are all united in.

Strategic Partnerships

With strategic partnerships still being negotiated, The Brook will be able to provide the best and latest resources from top seminaries, publishers, and ministry support organizations to the pastors who take part in our program.
